Assistant Controller – Private Equity Fund Accounting | Boston, MA | $140K-$160K Base
A leading Boston-based private equity investment firm is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its finance team. This is an opportunity for an experienced fund accounting professional to take on a highly visible role overseeing an outsourced fund administration relationship while partnering directly with senior finance and investment professionals.
What You’ll Do:- Oversee outsourced fund accounting and administration activities, including quarterly closes, financial statements, capital calls, distributions, and investor reporting
- Review and oversee the work of the third‑party fund administrator
- Support VP-level finance professionals and Controllers across their respective funds
- Work closely with private equity, co‑investment, and GP teams
- Oversee partnership accounting, including capital accounts, investment activity, and fund‑level transactions
- Partner with external auditors and tax advisors on annual audit and tax processes
- Support investment transactions, treasury activities, and fund restructurings
- Ensure compliance with partnership agreements, GAAP, and internal accounting policies
- Identify opportunities to improve processes through automation, data analytics, AI, and technology
- Collaborate with finance, tax, legal, and investment professionals across the organization
- 6–10 years of experience in private equity, venture capital, private credit, fund accounting, or partnership accounting
- Strong understanding of partnership accounting and GAAP
- Experience with private investment funds and/or alternative investments
- Experience overseeing or working with a third‑party fund administrator
- Strong understanding of capital accounts, fund financial statements, capital calls, distributions, and investment accounting
- Experience working with auditors and tax professionals
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modeling capabilities
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
