The Tax Manager or Director will lead and manage multiple tax engagements for privately held and middle-market clients across a variety of commercial industries. This individual will be responsible for delivering high-quality tax compliance, planning, and advisory services while serving as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for clients on complex tax matters.

The Tax Manager or Director will work closely with Tax Partners and other professionals across the Firm to understand clients’ businesses, identify tax planning opportunities, evaluate the tax implications of business decisions and transactions, and develop strategies designed to minimize tax liabilities and compliance risk.

The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge of corporate and partnership taxation, significant public accounting experience, and demonstrated success managing client relationships and engagement teams. At the Director level, the individual will also be expected to take a more significant role in client development, practice growth, staff development, and strategic leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, manage, review, and oversee tax compliance engagements for closely held and middle-market businesses and their owners, including partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations.
  • Review complex federal, state, and local income tax returns and related work papers for accuracy, completeness, and technical compliance.
  • Serve as a primary client contact and trusted advisor on complex tax compliance, planning, and business matters.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of clients’ businesses, industries, ownership structures, and strategic objectives to identify tax planning opportunities and potential risks.
  • Advise clients on the tax implications of business decisions, transactions, entity structures, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Identify and recommend tax planning strategies designed to minimize clients’ overall tax burden while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Work closely with Tax Partners to develop and execute tax planning and compliance strategies for clients.
  • Perform and oversee technical tax research and prepare memoranda, correspondence, and other documentation supporting tax positions and recommendations.
  • Analyze complex federal and state tax issues and effectively communicate findings and recommendations to clients and Partners.
  • Identify technical tax risks and elevate significant or uncertain positions to the appropriate Partner.
  • Manage federal and state tax notices, examinations, and correspondence with taxing authorities.
  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, including engagement scope, staffing, budgets, realization, deadlines, and overall service delivery.
