Family Office Controller Private Family Office
A private family office is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting, financial reporting, and tax functions for a complex multi-entity environment. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will oversee all day-to-day accounting operations while serving as the primary internal resource for tax coordination, financial reporting, cash management, and entity administration.
This is a highly visible, hands-on role that will partner closely with family members, senior leadership, and external advisors to ensure accurate financial reporting, tax compliance, and scalable financial operations.
Responsibilities- Lead all accounting and financial reporting activities across multiple entities, including individuals, trusts, partnerships, LLCs, and investment holding companies.
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation of consolidated financial statements.
- Manage all aspects of tax compliance by coordinating with external tax advisors and reviewing federal, state, and local tax returns, K-1s, estimated tax payments, and supporting work papers.
- Serve as the primary internal resource for complex tax matters affecting the family office, ensuring timely compliance and identifying tax planning opportunities.
- Oversee intercompany accounting, capital accounts, distributions, cash management, and entity-level financial activity.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate accounting records in accordance with GAAP and family office reporting requirements.
- Prepare financial analyses, dashboards, cash flow forecasts, and reporting packages for the CFO and family principals.
- Partner with legal, tax, investment, and estate planning advisors on entity formation, restructuring, transactions, and ongoing compliance.
- Develop and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and financial processes to support the continued growth of the family office.
- Assist with audits, financial reviews, banking relationships, and special projects as needed.
- CPA required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant tax experience required.
- Strong expertise in partnership, trust, individual, and multi-entity taxation.
- Experience reviewing complex tax returns, K-1s, estimated tax calculations, and coordinating with outside tax advisors.
- Extensive experience preparing consolidated financial statements and managing intercompany accounting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience developing advanced
