Senior Accountant

This is a provisional appointment.

Reporting to the Supervisor of the Cashiers' Unit within the Finance Division, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for handling and processing significant amounts of cash on a daily basis.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Daily collections and recordings of all cash/checks through the City's Inovah Cashiering system.
• Prepares daily deposits of cash to be picked up by Brink's and sent to the City's Treasury Department for further processing.
• Opens and distributes mail on a daily basis; validates petty cash reimbursement requests; opens and closes the Cashiers' Unit in the absence of the Manager.
• Performs related work as required.

• Applicants must have at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in accounting, auditing, or bookkeeping work.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff in the Boston Police Department and other city departments.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
• It is strongly preferred that all applicants have experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
• Ability to work extended office hours once a week.
