Audit Manager - Affordable Housing

A leading national CPA and advisory firm is looking for an experienced Audit Manager to join its specialist Affordable Housing practice.

The position can be considered on either a hybrid basis in Boston or remotely
, offering the opportunity to join an established real estate practice while maintaining flexibility around where you work.

You'll take ownership of a portfolio of Affordable Housing audit clients, lead engagement teams and work directly with senior client contacts and Partners.

As Audit Manager, you'll be responsible for engagements from initial planning through final delivery.

Rather than simply reviewing work at the end of an audit, you'll be expected to understand your clients, anticipate issues and ensure your teams have the direction and resources needed to deliver high-quality engagements.

Responsibilities will include:

• Lead Affordable Housing audit and assurance engagements from planning through completion.
• Take ownership of engagement strategy, execution and final deliverables.
• Develop detailed engagement plans, budgets and schedules.
• Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
• Coordinate staffing and resources across your portfolio.
• Review audit work papers and financial reporting deliverables.
• Identify accounting and audit issues and work with senior leadership to determine appropriate solutions.
• Monitor engagement progress, deadlines and budgets.
• Maintain regular communication with clients throughout the engagement.
• Serve as a key point of contact for senior client stakeholders.
• Work closely with Senior Managers and Partners on significant engagement matters.

People management will be an important part of the position.

You'll lead teams consisting of Senior Associates, Associates and Interns, with responsibility for both engagement performance and individual development.

You'll:

• Delegate work effectively across engagement teams.
• Review work and provide clear, constructive feedback.
• Coach Seniors as they begin taking greater ownership of engagements.
• Support the technical and professional development of junior professionals.
• Identify development opportunities and help team members progress.
• Create an environment where people can ask questions and continue building their skills.

You'll join a dedicated Affordable Housing practice rather than operating as a generalist Audit Manager.

The successful candidate will have:

• 5+ years of public accounting experience.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting.
• Active CPA licence required.
• Strong audit and assurance experience within a CPA firm.
• Experience leading engagements and supervising audit teams.
• Strong financial statement and workpaper review capabilities.
• Excellent client service and relationship-management skills.
• Strong organisational and project management abilities.
• Confidence managing multiple engagements and competing deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to coach, mentor and develop junior professionals.

Previous Affordable Housing or Real Estate audit experience would be particularly valuable.
