Job Summary

Join the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute (MGBCI) as a Practice Assistant II in our Infusion Unit at Mass General Hospital! This position offers a unique full‑time schedule:
Friday: 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM, Saturday & Sunday: 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM, Monday: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM. As a Practice Assistant II, you’ll play a vital role in creating a welcoming, well‑coordinated experience for patients and families while supporting clinicians in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment.

Essential Functions
  • Greet and assist patients at the front desk. Perform tasks related to patient visits including scheduling, check‑in, check‑out duties.
  • Make patient appointments and maintain appointment records.
  • Answer telephones, assist callers with routine inquiries, and schedule appointments.
  • Process patient billing forms and scan documents into patient medical record/EPIC.
  • Call for patient medical records and laboratory test results.
  • Open and distribute unit mail or faxes.
  • May be required to accept co‑payments.
  • Handles, screens and/or takes messages related to prior authorizations, provider questions, prescription refills, and test results.
  • Acts as an EPIC “Super User” for scheduling, registration and billing systems (EPIC training is provided).
  • Provides assistance and training to others in these areas.
  • May perform more complex or specialized functions (i.e., surgical scheduling, schedule changes/blocking) at more advanced competency level.
Qualifications

Education
:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Experience
: 2-3 years office experience required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
:

  • Proficiency with all Office Suite, knowledge of office operations, and understanding of office procedures including filing, copying, scanning, printing and faxing.
  • Ability to use phone system and manage non‑routine phone calls and solve routine issues as appropriate.
  • Communicating effectively in writing and speaking to convey information effectively.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work‑related documents, to correspond and communicate with others clearly and effectively (including composing/editing e‑mail, memos and letters), and to take complete and accurate messages.
  • Managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • Well organized and good time management skills to manage multiple tasks effectively, follow established protocols, and work within systems.
