DESCRIPTION The French Library seeks to hire a Social Media & Administrative Assistant to execute a variety of marketing/social media tasks, plan and host activities, and help the Executive Director for some administrative tasks. This is an exciting entry position for a bilingual (English-French) individual who is curious and eager to cater to and embrace the French Library’s community.
Founded in 1945, the French Library of Boston, is a 501(c)3, membership-based organization housed in a beautiful French Revival townhouse in Boston’s historic Back Bay. The French Library has three areas of activity:
French language education for students of all ages, from children to adults, based on close affiliation with the internationally renowned Alliances Françaises network;
French-themed artistic and cultural activities throughout the year, including the annual Bastille Day Celebration; and a library/médiathèque that houses some 32,000 French-language books, periodicals, and electronic media, making it the largest private collection in the U.S.
RESPONSIBILITIES Marketing tasks
- Help plan, create, and publish content for social media, including visuals on Canva
- Publish weekly e-newsletter
- Remain active across all platforms to interact with followers
- Write blog posts about French language and francophone culture
- Contribute ideas for cultural and membership events addressing the various segments of our community: individuals, families, members and donors
- Help Membership Manager execute events and supervise volunteers
- Host some social and conversation groups
- Set up quarterly Board Meetings and extra meeting rooms for Executive Director as needed
- Help Executive Director with specific research projects and print design projects as assigned
- Help organize staff outings and yearly Executive Director’s holiday party
- Fluency or advanced proficiency in French
- Native level of fluency in English
- Deep interest in French language and francophone cultures
- Readiness to be an active and charismatic “face of the French Library” on social media, INCLUDING IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA
- Ability to write clearly and concisely
- Superior attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional presence
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible and responsive
- Takes initiative and demonstrates follow-through
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Advanced user of the Microsoft Office Suite required
- Advanced user of social media platforms required
- Experience with Word Press, Meta, Canva, Mailchimp, and Event Brite strongly preferred
- Experience in an Administration setting strongly preferred
- Experience with event planning desired
- Experience in a multicultural environment desired
- Familiarity with database systems and AI platforms desired
