Overview
In addition to completing the City of Boston Career Center application, the Motor Equipment Repair person performs routine duties in servicing automotive equipment, making minor repairs, and cleaning vehicles for the Boston Police Department’s Fleet Division.

Responsibilities- Preventive maintenance procedures including analysis, diagnosis, and repair of vehicles, including non-safety-related equipment such as power windows and door locks.
- Servicing and washing vehicles, including steam cleaning, checking all fluid levels, and dispensing gasoline, motor oil, and windshield washer fluid.
- Lubricating all automotive parts.
- Checking, charging, and maintaining batteries and proper terminal connections.
- Performing physical checks of tires, glass, lights, and mirrors.
- Adjusting tire pressure, as well as removing, replacing, balancing, and rotating tires.
- Performing minor adjustments to automotive equipment such as batteries and radiators.
- Repairing and replacing bulbs, mirrors, and lenses.
- Replacing and updating decals, permits, plates, and stickers in accordance with State Enhanced Safety Inspection (ESI) requirements.
- Assisting Class I and II Motor Equipment Repair persons.
- Performing related work as required.
- Applicants must have a minimum of two (2) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time, paid experience as an automotive mechanic working on a broad range of commonly known light and heavy‑duty equipment.
- Must possess a valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. A valid 2C hoisting license and a Massachusetts State Enhanced Safety Inspector’s Certificate are required within one (1) year of hire.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
