Job Summary

The Grants Senior Manager is responsible for the overall management of the grants and sponsor ships program in Medical Affairs, ensuring all processes, procedures, and documentation comply with the standards and SOPs established by Compliance, Legal, and Medical Affairs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight and full lifecycle management of incoming grant, humanitarian donation, sponsorship, and membership requests for Vertex disease areas of interest.
  • Oversee grant committee meetings, contracting, milestone tracking/payments, reconciliations, budget planning, and audit readiness.
  • Lead at least one Global Grant Committee meeting, presenting assessments of requests and funders to the committee(s).
  • Identify and implement process enhancements to improve compliance with Vertex's policies, utilizing industry insights and benchmarking data.
  • Collaborate in the creation of reports for grants and sponsorship tracking, including status reports, metrics, and dashboards, and proactively communicate this information to relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Work with Finance to develop and track grant budgets, including the annual budget and forecasts.
  • Coordinate with Legal on the contracting process, ensuring grant and sponsorship templates are current.
  • Maintain data management systems that support the review/approval process, archiving, and ongoing maintenance of all grants programs.
  • Provide training on data management systems to new team members.
  • Assist in launching and managing an award grant program.
  • Communicate complex information with internal contacts (Medical Affairs, Legal, Compliance, Patient Advocacy, etc.) and external applicants.
  • Engage in other external funding related projects and tasks as necessary.
Key Requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to exchange complex information with others.
  • Strong project management skills and the initiative to identify issues and recommend solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams) and online meeting platforms (Zoom).
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy, and conciseness.
  • Knowledge of relevant guidelines, including medical and regulatory affairs, drug development, FDA and regulatory guidelines (PhRMA, OIG, AMA, ACCME, EACCME, Sunshine Act, etc.) and compliance around grant programs.
  • Proficiency with Request Management systems.
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree required. Typically requires 4 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, including relevant experience in grants and sponsor ships, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $140,200 – $210,200. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards.
