AI Business & Operations, Business Systems/ Tech Analyst
Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy.
We are looking for an MBA intern to join our Operations leadership team for the summer. This role is a creative experiment to apply a technical, agentic mindset to a mature Operations organization. You will report directly to the Head of Embedded Finance and act as a technical strategist, auditing our current workflows and designing the future state of our “Ops Engine” using AI and automation.
Dayin the Life (Responsibilities)
- Operational Audit & Gap Analysis: Partner with the existing leadership team to identify inefficiencies in current workflows, capacity planning models, and performance measurement frameworks.
- AI Transformation
Roadmap:
Evaluate and propose how Agentic Protocols can be integrated into daily operations. Determine whether Ops Agents can handle routine tasks and how LLM‑based tools can bridge gaps in our tech stack. - Workflow Automation: Design and potentially prototype automated solutions to help the team meet and exceed SLAs more efficiently.
- Performance Metrics Redesign: Rethink how success is measured in an AI‑augmented environment—moving beyond traditional volume metrics to value‑based output.
- Strategic Recommendation: At the end of the summer, deliver a formal recommendation on how financial operations must adapt, including roles, responsibilities, tools, technologies, and structure.
- Current MBA Candidate: Enrolled in a top‑tier MBA program, ideally with a background in Computer Science, Engineering, or Data Science.
- AI Fluency: Deep understanding of the AI landscape—including LLMs, agentic workflows, and automation tools—and how to apply them to business problems.
- Operational Intuition: Ability to view a manual process and immediately identify the logical framework needed to streamline it.
- Executive Presence: Capacity to engage with senior teams during leadership transitions and provide candid, data‑driven insights.
- Intern Cohort: Though the role is in Operations, you will be part of our broader Summer MBA Cohort, gaining peer community and executive exposure.
- High Impact: You will help define the profile of a future Director‑level hire and the roadmap for the entire department, rather than merely shadowing.
