Role Description

The Senior Grants Administrator is a full-time, on-site role based in Boston, MA, responsible for overseeing the lifecycle of sponsored research and grant activities for assigned departments or investigators. This position coordinates pre- and post-award operations, including preparing and reviewing grant proposals, ensuring compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements, and facilitating timely submission of applications and progress reports. The Senior Grants Administrator manages budgets and financial projections, monitors expenditures, and works closely with research teams, department leadership, and central offices to resolve issues and optimize funding use.

Day-to-day responsibilities include interpreting funding agency guidelines, advising investigators on grant strategy, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting audits and reporting. The role also contributes to process improvements, provides guidance to junior staff, and helps promote best practices in research administration and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications
  • Grant Administration and Research Administration skills to manage pre- and post-award activities, interpret sponsor guidelines, and support complex research portfolios.
  • Strong Analytical Skills and Budgeting expertise to develop, monitor, and reconcile grant budgets, analyze financial data, and ensure appropriate use of funds.
  • Excellent Communication abilities, including clear written and verbal communication, stakeholder collaboration, and the capacity to explain policies and procedures to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with federal and non-federal funding agencies (e.g., NIH), sponsor regulations, and institutional compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with grants management and financial systems, and strong skills in spreadsheet and database tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as business, finance, public administration, or health-related discipline); advanced degree or professional certification in research administration is a plus.
  • Several years of progressively responsible experience in grants or research administration within an academic medical center or research institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately
