Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Site Director, assist daily After School Operations and program preparations prior to school dismissal.
  • Lead daily activities that allow children to learn and play, explore the community, participate in sports and swimming, and develop positive relationships.
  • Model the Y’s leadership core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Emphasize personal safety and emotional well-being with students, parents, and staff; maintain safety as a top priority.
  • Plan and implement recreational and educational programs with group participation and appropriate choice; use positive discipline and reinforce constructive behavior.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with staff, parents and children; assist staff with daily tasks to ensure quality programming.
Program Implementation
  • Manage daily attendance records; support absence calls and confirm group rosters.
  • Support behavior guidance and effective group management in collaboration with coaches and counselors.
  • Set an example for group game facilitation and program quality.
  • Assist in attendance tracking and complete required documentation for relevant programs.
  • Report accidents and incidents immediately to supervisors.
  • Communicate program information, problems and concerns as they occur.
  • Assist with planning and implementing daily activities, special events and Family Night activities.
  • Participate in daily leadership schedule including openings, closings, and extended hours; remain flexible for other duties as required.
  • Support camper files and assist groups as needed; attend and participate in staff meetings and training.
  • Maintain and care for all program areas and supplies; ensure respectful use of equipment and property.
  • Abide by YMCA/EEC/school policies and seek clarification when in doubt.
Skills, Knowledge and Work Environment
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in all physical group activities; work in a busy indoor environment and lead outdoor activities; may be in the water during swim periods.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a passion for working with and nurturing children.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or pursuing a degree preferred.
  • Experience working with children (youth programs, camp settings or related field); understands the needs of children.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and effective communication skills.
  • Kowledge of group processes and collaborative teamwork.
  • Commitment to YMCA mission, philosophy and departmental goals.
  • Current First Aid, CPR and Oxygen certifications as required; or able to complete YMCA-provided training upon hire.
  • 7D license recommended to assist with transportation but not required.
  • Available up to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, typically in a 6–8 hour shift between 10am–6pm.
