The GSRP Floating Caregiver provides flexible, responsive support to preschool students and classroom teams within Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) classrooms. This position primarily serves at Dudley Early Learning Center
, but may be assigned to other GSRP sites as needed to ensure continuity of care during staff absences or increased student needs.
The Floating Caregiver works closely with teachers and paraprofessionals to support student supervision, engagement, routines, and safety. While this role shares many responsibilities with an early childhood paraprofessional, it does not carry primary responsibility for lesson planning, documentation, or classroom leadership, as it is designed to provide on‑demand instructional and behavioral support across classrooms.
Direct Care- Supervise children during playtime, naptime, and other activities, ensuring their safety and well‑being.
- Assist with meal preparation and serving, ensuring children receive nutritious and age‑appropriate meals and snacks.
- Implement age‑appropriate activities and routines in all activities based on a research‑based curriculum to promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
- Observe and document children’s developmental progress and communicate to parents and supervisors.
- Collaborate with other childcare staff to plan and maximize learning to ensure a cohesive and supportive environment for the children.
- Maintain open and positive communication with parents, keeping them informed about their child’s daily activities and progress.
- Become familiar with and implement Michigan Child Care Licensing Rules.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for the children.
- Ensure that all equipment and materials are age‑appropriate and in good working order.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to protect the children and staff.
- Monitor and maintain high quality care and learning spaces above and beyond the Michigan Child Care Licensing Rules.
- Maintain accurate records of children’s attendance, activities, and developmental progress via the district adopted methods and supervisor direction.
- Practice privacy and discretion with children’s information.
- Document any incidents or concerns that may arise. Report, if necessary, as a mandated reporter.
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field OR
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential OR
- Equivalent qualifications as approved by the State Board (minimum of 120 clock hours)
- Demonstrated verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and responsive to changing classroom needs
- Physically able to bend, stoop, lift, and actively engage with preschool‑aged children
- Prior experience in preschool or early childhood settings preferred
- Health examination required
- Training in CPR & First Aid or willingness to be certified in both
- Knowledge of child development and age‑appropriate practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Negative TB Test
- MI Registry Health and Safety Courses
$17.00/hour
