Are you a mission‑driven landscape architect or landscape project manager who wants your sustainable design and construction management skills to directly benefit the local Boston community? As the Senior Food Forest & Green Infrastructure Construction Manager, you’ll lead the implementation of regenerative, climate‑resilient food forests across Boston’s neighborhoods—from base plan and permitting through construction and community build days. This is a high-impact role responsible for transforming underutilized land into thriving green spaces that benefit the entire community.
Reporting to the Engagement & Construction Director, you will manage the end‑to‑end construction and design support of 5-10 new food forests at a time, ensuring they are completed on time, on scope, and within budget. This role is your chance to directly contribute to our ambitious goal of building 30 food forests by 2030, fundamentally changing the landscape fabric of Boston.

The ideal candidate has experience in park building, landscape construction and sustainable site implementation, with a balance of project management skills and an entrepreneurial mindset. You are a creative problem‑solver, detail‑oriented, and an effective communicator who can build relationships with diverse stakeholders. You have strong project management experience, and have led the construction process of landscape or park development. A passion for food forests and a commitment to community collaboration in creating sustainable green spaces is essential.
Responsibilities- Manage contractors to ensure construction projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
- Manage infrastructure construction, e.g., mainline water installation, solar power systems, irrigation systems.
- Build partnerships with construction suppliers, e.g., for fruit tree provision, materials, etc.
- Develop and implement safety protocols, and ensure they are followed.
- Report weekly, and monthly on progress, indicators, to the Engagement & Construction Director.
- Ensure projects are efficiently, effectively and safely implemented in accordance with organizational procedures, local regulations, contracts and policies.
- Meticulously manage project documentation, including field reports, permitting and inspection requirements, and project budget.
- Manage creation of construction project management tools and processes.
- Support community engagement in partnership with the Community Engagement Manager to foster engagement throughout the construction process, keeping stakeholders informed and involved, e.g., through a planting day.
- Create new park base plans and site condition plans to guide construction and ensure adherence to zoning regulations.
- Obtain necessary permits and demonstrate understanding of local zoning ordinances.
- Design, communication, and documentation of construction processes.
- Either a Bachelor’s Degree & 5 years of related experience, or 5-7 years of related experience with demonstrated success in construction of landscape projects (parks, residential landscapes, etc)
- Construction experience:
- Ability to lead construction of new food forests in at least 3 different Boston neighborhoods.
- Demonstrated experience turning design intent into buildable plans, schedules, and field decisions; experience with design, communication, and documentation of construction processes.
- Demonstrated experience project managing in a flexible, fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to read and execute on construction plans; can conduct site documentation and site inventory analysis.
- Experience managing a detail‑intensive process from end to end with little errors and clear communication with key stakeholders.
- Comfort with plan review, field changes, and coordinating with engineers, utility companies, and inspectors.
