We are currently looking for a detail-oriented Assistant Estimator to join our tight-knit, fast-growing team.
The ideal candidate is precise, consistent, and capable of completing multiple tasks at a time. You will be assisting the Estimating team in preparation of all phases of the preconstruction process from conceptual through construction documents. This position supports the Estimating team by analyzing project plans, performing material takeoffs, soliciting and gathering subcontractor quotes to prepare accurate,competitive bids projects in the public/private commercial, institutional, historical, multi-family, historical, historical, healthcare and residential sectors, which range in size from $500k to $50 million+.
Responsibilities- Assist the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive estimate for commercial construction projects
- Review project plans and specifications
- Identify proper trades required for the project through plan review
- Assist with subcontractor solicitation, ensuring adequate market coverage on projects
- Assist Estimating team in establishing proper subcontractor list, distributing project information, collecting, levelling and organizing subcontractor bids
- Assist Estimating team in preparation of accurate quantity takeoffs
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site tours to be fully versed on how the site will affect pricing
- Review project plans and specs to identify discrepancies, and potential scope gaps between trades
- Assist in development of thorough scopes of work that cover all aspects of a project, and ensure subcontractors comply with the scope produced
- Bachelor's degree in construction related field, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or field experience
- Preferably 1-3 years’ construction experience preferably with a commercial general contracting company
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Basic understanding of construction techniques and means & methods
- Understanding and experience with Massachusetts subcontractor base
- Successful candidate must possess a high degree of self-motivation, strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail; work in a team environment and be able to work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience with Takeoff Software a plus
