Senior Project Manager – Heavy Civil Construction

Metric Geo is partnering with one of the nation's leading specialty heavy civil construction contractors to recruit an experienced Senior Project Manager

The successful candidate will lead the delivery of large-scale, technically challenging projects while mentoring project teams and working closely with operations, engineering, and business development leaders to drive continued regional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the successful execution of large, complex heavy civil construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to Project Managers on smaller and routine projects, offering technical guidance and support when complex issues arise.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Construction, Engineering, and Estimating teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Project Management
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource plans.
  • Review contract documents and specifications while preparing RFIs and managing technical documentation.
  • Negotiate contracts, change orders, claims, and scope modifications with clients and project partners.
  • Lead procurement activities, including subcontractor awards and material/equipment buyout.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including forecasting, invoicing, payment collections, and cost control.
  • Identify project risks early and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct project kick off meetings and maintain clear communication across all project stakeholders.
  • Review engineering designs, construction submittals, and quality documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineers, owners, and general contractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Safety & Quality
  • Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring company and site-specific safety standards are consistently upheld.
  • Conduct regular site safety audits and proactively address potential hazards.
  • Ensure quality control procedures, documentation, and project standards are maintained throughout construction.
  • Participate in pre-construction site assessments to evaluate site access, working conditions, and construction readiness.
Leadership & Business Development
  • Mentor and develop junior Project Managers, Engineers, and Estimators.
  • Partner with regional leadership to improve operational processes and strengthen labor and equipment resources.
  • Collaborate with sales and business development teams to support client relationships and regional growth initiatives.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and client meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • 8–10+ years of construction project management experience within heavy civil construction.
  • Experience delivering large, complex infrastructure or specialty construction projects.
  • Geotechnical construction experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, claims management, scheduling, cost control, and dispute resolution.
  • Experience working with union labor agreements is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and financial performance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client management skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
