West Work is an emerging architecture office committed to advancing design excellence with low-carbon materials and net-zero construction across housing, higher education, and civic projects. We are seeking a full-time Construction Administration Architect with 8+ years of professional experience who is passionate about ensuring thoughtful design is successfully executed in the field.

This role focuses on bridging design and construction by working closely with project teams, consultants, contractors, and clients throughout the construction phase. The ideal candidate has exceptional technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and enjoys solving complex construction challenges while protecting design intent.

Position Overview

The Construction Administration Manager will be responsible for:

  • Leading construction administration services across multiple projects from Notice to Proceed through project closeout.
  • Managing Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, substitution requests, Architect's Supplemental Instructions (ASIs), and other construction phase documentation.
  • Reviewing shop drawings, product data, material samples, mock-ups, and fabrication drawings for conformance with the contract documents and design intent.
  • Conducting regular site observations and documenting construction progress through detailed field reports.
  • Reviewing and evaluating building envelope construction, including exterior wall assemblies, waterproofing, roofing, windows, air barriers, thermal insulation, and other enclosure systems.
  • Collaborating with project teams, consultants, owners, and contractors to resolve field conditions and complex technical issues.
  • Evaluating contractor requests for change orders, proposed substitutions, and applications for payment.

    Coordinating with structural, MEP, envelope, and specialty consultants throughout construction.
  • Identifying potential construction risks and proactively recommending solutions that balance design intent, performance, schedule, and budget.
  • Supporting firm-wide quality assurance and quality control initiatives.
  • Maintaining organized project documentation and ensuring timely responses throughout construction.
  • Representing West Work during owner meetings, job meetings, punch walks, and project closeout activities.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of West Work's construction administration standards, technical details, and best practices.

You will play a critical role in delivering sustainable, technically rigorous projects by ensuring construction aligns with design intent, building performance goals, and client expectations.

Qualifications
  • Significant construction administration experience and a strong technical background
  • 8+ years of professional experience within an architectural practice.
  • Extensive construction administration experience on multifamily housing, higher education, civic, and adaptive reuse projects.

    Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, detailing, and constructability.
  • Demonstrated experience with building envelope systems, including exterior wall assemblies, windows, roofing, waterproofing, air barriers, vapor control, and thermal performance.
  • Knowledge of building science principles related to moisture management, durability, enclosure performance, and energy efficiency.
  • Experience reviewing shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, field reports, change orders, and payment applications.
  • Familiarity with AIA contract documents and construction administration procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Massachusetts building codes and accessibility requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    Ability to effectively manage multiple projects while collaborating with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams.
