Civil Engineering, Site Manager, Road Construction, Quantity Surveyor
A leading heavy civil and infrastructure contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to join its growing Rail & Transit team in the Boston market.
This position will support major transportation infrastructure projects throughout Greater Boston, working alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and field teams from project startup through closeout.
The company has been operating for more than 50 years and delivers complex rail/transit, bridge, highway, marine, utility, and heavy civil infrastructure projects throughout New England and the Southeast.
Unlike contractors that hire specifically for one project, employees are brought into the regional team, providing greater long-term stability and the ability to move between projects as the Massachusetts backlog continues to grow.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with day-to-day project execution
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change documentation, and project records
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction documents
- Track quantities, productivity, costs, and project progress
- Assist with procurement and subcontractor coordination
- Support project scheduling, forecasting, and short-term planning
- Coordinate with owners, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel
- Assist with work plans, safety documentation, and quality-control requirements
- Support rail work occurring around active operations, shutdowns, outages, and restricted work windows
- Help identify project risks, conflicts, and potential changes before they impact field operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred
- Previous Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or heavy civil construction experience
- Rail or transit construction experience strongly preferred
- Experience with heavy civil, bridge, structural, utility, or transportation infrastructure will also be considered
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, and construction documents
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office
- Experience with HCSS, Primavera P6, Vista, or similar construction software is a plus
Why Join?
The company is continuing to expand its Massachusetts infrastructure operation, with a strong pipeline of MBTA, rail, bridge, and heavy civil work throughout Greater Boston and Eastern Massachusetts.
Employees are hired with a long-term career path in mind rather than being tied to a single project.
Additional benefits include:
- Dedicated Learning & Development team
- Individualized career growth and development plans
- Clear progression toward Project Manager and leadership-level positions
- Annual compensation and performance reviews
- Annual cost-of-living increases
- Company vehicle or approximately $600/month vehicle allowance for eligible Project Engineer-level employees
- Strong regional backlog with limited need for relocation
- Opportunity to work on some of the largest and most complex transportation infrastructure projects in New England
This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer looking to build a long-term career within rail, transit, and heavy civil construction while remaining based in the Greater Boston market.
