Position: Teaching Artist Assistant / Dance Captain

To participate in Berklee Student Employment, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee
  • Enrolled at least half–time in a degree, diploma, or certificate‑seeking undergraduate or graduate program
  • During the summer semester only, students may maintain employment without being enrolled; in this case the student must be pre‑registered for the upcoming fall semester
  • Valid United States Social Security Number (SSN) and valid visa status as applicable
  • Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (first semester students may work even without an official GPA until the semester is complete)
  • Federal Work Study students may apply
  • Good disciplinary standing
  • Must be located in the U.S.
Position

Teaching Artist Assistant/Dance Captains (TAA/DCs) will support Musical Theatre faculty in delivering rigorous and inclusive early‑level musical theatre training in dance, singing, song interpretation, and ensemble work to 12–14‑year‑old collaborators working toward a culminating public share.

Responsibilities
  • Cover all dance and choreography classes, learn set choreography, and run brush‑up dance rehearsals or offer dance tutorials
  • Capture all final runs of choreography per class/rehearsal and post the video on the internal site; use notation to capture choreography and maintain continuity from rehearsal to rehearsal
  • Organize and facilitate Brown Bag Conversations about contemporary industry issues appropriate for teen audience discussion
  • Prepare, manage, and distribute materials; chaperone or coach participants as needed
Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Comfortable performing and leading dance rehearsals for all MT dance styles (jazz, tap, ballet, modern, hip hop)
  • Works well and enjoys teaching pre‑teens and teens
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience in teaching pedagogy or a strong interest in working with pre‑teens and teens
  • Sight reading, beginning music theory competency, and basic piano for vocal practice (plus)
  • Capacity to play a musical instrument (any) to accompany a performance (plus)
  • Songwriting/arranging skills (plus)
