To participate in Berklee Student Employment, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee
- Enrolled at least half‑time in a degree, diploma, or certificate‑seeking undergraduate or graduate program
- Graduate students may work during the summer without enrollment, provided they are pre‑registered for the upcoming fall semester; this exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters
- Valid United States Social Security Number (SSN)
- Maintain valid Visa status (as applicable)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (first‑semester students may work before an official GPA is established)
- Federal Work Study eligibility is a plus
- In good disciplinary standing
- Located in the U.S.
Graduate Assistants/Assistant Musical Directors, under the supervision of Musical Theatre faculty, deliver rigorous and inclusive early‑level musical theatre training in dance, singing, song interpretation, and ensemble work to 12–14‑year‑old collaborators preparing for a culminating public share.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Coach small groups in dance, choral, and ensemble work
- Serve as active musical and movement role models during rehearsal
- Provide individualized vocal and stylistic feedback
- Contribute to musical preparation of repertoire for daily and final shares
- Prepare and manage classroom and rehearsal materials
- Take attendance
- Support daily program operations
- Organize and facilitate Brown Bag Conversations—guided discussions of contemporary industry issues pitched for a teen audience
- Comfort with musical theatre dance styles, particularly jazz
- Working command of musical theatre song styles across the canon in performance
- Sight reading, beginning music theory competency, and basic piano sufficient for vocal practice
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of skill levels and learner temperaments in a pre‑teen/teen population
- Prior experience teaching pre‑teens and teens or a clearly articulated interest in working with this population
- Capacity to play a musical instrument—any—well enough to accompany performance
- Songwriting and arranging skills, and coursework or experience in teaching pedagogy
- Teach in partnership with a supervising faculty member and respond to the needs of individual students and the group as a whole
- Learn strategies for working across the range of learning styles and engagement levels typical of a pre‑teen/teen ensemble
- Learn to structure class and rehearsal meetings, sequence content over the arc of a program, and sustain the pedagogical and organizational culture of an early‑training musical theatre program

Hourly Rate: $20.60/hour.
