Job Description:About MAAM
Located on the campus of Mass Art, the Mass Art Art Museum (MAAM) is Boston's only free contemporary art museum. It's a place to "imagine the unimagined," and a space to experience works by visionary artists at the forefront of contemporary art. As Mass Art's teaching museum, we are committed to educating and empowering the next generation of artists and museum employees - both on our campus and throughout the world.
All exhibitions and public programs at MAAM are free and open to the public and we are a W.A.G.E.
-certified museum.
The Student Designer assists with the creation of print and digital assets for the Mass Art Art Museum (MAAM) including, but not limited to, event flyers, advertisements, posters, programs, exhibition signage, wall text, and related materials. This opportunity is designed for those interested in pursuing a career in graphic design with direction and feedback given from the MAAM team. Reporting to the Deputy Director and working closely with the staff at MAAM, the Student Designer will contribute to a range of projects in collaboration with the MAAM team and at times, with other partners.
This part-time position is designed to broaden the experience of students embarking on professional careers in graphic design or related fields. The Student Designer will work up to 10 hours/week to be spread out over 1-2 weekdays (days/times negotiable). Occasional evening and weekend hours events may be needed.
The Student Designer will:
- Design a broad range of design and communication projects including:
- Event posters, flyers, and digital graphics for individual events and monthly overviews
- MAAM advertisements for a variety of outlets
- Museum merchandise, either new or updates to existing designs
- Exhibition assets including, but not limited to, all wall graphics, signage, text panels, and if needed, the exhibition mark and colorway
- Interior and exterior signage
- Communicate across the MAAM team, in particular with the Deputy Director and Executive Director
- Present work for feedback from both internal and external collaborators
- Participate in communication and design meetings
- Upload working and final files to the MAAM google drive for archiving and use
- Print, trim, and produce materials in-house as required
- Be familiar with and adhere to current MAAM brand standards
- Other duties as needed
$18/hour
Requirements:Required Qualification
- Junior level coursework in graphic and communication design
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Google Suite
- Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Familiarity with best practices in graphic and communication design
- Flexibility to accomplish time-sensitive tasks and ability to adapt to meet deadlines with basic supervision
- Attention to detail and strong proofreading skills
