Box Office Ticket Representative
Emerson College's Office of the Arts is seeking personable and responsible Box Office Ticket Representatives for part-time employment in downtown Boston's Theatre District. We are looking for applicants who are welcoming, proactive, accountable, and comfortable interfacing with the public and within a team, both in a fast-paced environment and in quieter office settings. This is an entry-level box office position with opportunity for growth into other higher level part-time box positions.
Come learn the inner workings of a non-profit, professional arts organization that presents international theatre in Boston and supports student and community productions.
Ticket representatives can generally expect to work a minimum of 6 hours per week and, on rare occasion, a maximum of 20 hours per week (6-12 hours is a more typical range). Hours are dependent on event schedule and individual availability. There is some flexibility as we try our best to accommodate individual scheduling needs.
Pay is $17.00/hour with opportunities for advancement after 3+ months.
Venues:
Paramount Center, Cutler Majestic Theatre, Tufte Performance and Production Center (note that we do not service Emerson's Colonial Theatre)
- Sell tickets and season packages and take donations over the phone and in-person using Audience View ticketing software
- Distribute tickets before performances
- Participate in the box office's internal equity, diversity, and inclusion learning and projects to contribute to a more anti-racist workplace and theater experience
- Execute administrative box office tasks such as ticket mailings and online database cleanup
- Answer patron questions and concerns over the phone, via email, and in person, quickly navigating our internal wiki, our public websites, and google to find information
- Stay informed of our programming and policies and be comfortable talking about them with patrons and colleagues
- Be responsible for handling sensitive financial information, multiple payment forms (credit cards, cash, checks), and confidential patron data
- Assist full-time staff with long-term projects to continuously improve our box office work culture and our patron experience
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Technical:
- Nearly all aspects of this position require the use of a computer: basic computer skills including email communication, browser and folder navigation, window management, and typing are essential and required.
- Basic phone skills including answering/transferring calls, listening to voicemails, and making outbound calls as needed.
- Interest in theater, film, live music, or other artforms
- Customer service experience
- Cash and credit card handling experience
- Previous box office, theater, or ticketing software experience
- Willing to engage in team-wide discussions around equity, justice, and inclusion in the arts
- Knowledge of Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Zoom
- Typical office conditions
- Desks and chairs are higher than average due to positioning at Box Office windows
- Nearly all work executed on a computer using both keyboard and mouse entry and involves speaking with customers in person and over the phone
- The box office, especially at the Majestic Theatre, can be a crowded space during event shifts, and we can accommodate scheduling at more spacious venues as needed
