Job SummaryThe Project Architect will report to the Project Manager and work closely with the Founding Principal and Principal in charge of production for Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Administration. This role is responsible for translating design concepts into detailed architectural drawings and coordinating with consultants and contractors to ensure design intent is maintained through all phases of a project. The Project Architect plays a key role in design development, technical documentation, and construction administration, with opportunities for creative input and leadership in the delivery of high‑end residential architecture.
This is an ideal position for a motivated and detail‑oriented architect with strong technical skills, a refined design sensibility, and a passion for modern single‑family residential design.
Job Duties Schematic Design Phase Duties
- Collaborate with the Founding Principal and Project Manager to develop early design concepts aligned with the firm’s naturally modern design ethos.
- Translate client goals, program requirements, and site analysis into preliminary design strategies.
- Create hand sketches, digital models, and presentation materials to communicate conceptual ideas clearly and effectively.
- Conduct precedent research, zoning analysis, and feasibility studies to inform design direction.
- Assist in preparing and participating in client presentations, incorporating feedback into evolving schematic designs.
- Coordinate with consultants as needed during early phases to assess structural feasibility, site constraints, and initial sustainability strategies.
- Support the development of schematic design packages for client approval and internal documentation.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and design leadership to refine and develop schematic designs.
- Produce and coordinate detailed drawings and specifications for permitting and construction.
- Integrate structural, MEP, and other consultant input into architectural design.
- Research and apply applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and sustainability standards.
- Maintain design quality and consistency with the firm’s aesthetic vision and technical standards.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and product vendors throughout all phases of design and construction.
- Participate in design meetings with clients and internal teams, documenting decisions and following up on action items.
- Assist the Project Manager in tracking and responding to RFIs, submittals, and construction‑related communications.
- Help maintain project schedules and ensure deliverables are completed on time.
- Attend site visits and construction meetings, documenting progress and identifying potential issues.
- Review and comment on shop drawings, submittals, and contractor RFIs to ensure alignment with design intent.
Assist with field observation reports, punch lists, and close‑out documentation.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, reviewing their work for accuracy and quality.
- Contribute to the firm’s collaborative studio culture by participating in design critiques and team discussions.
