Hickox Williams Architects is a small, design-led residential practice on Winter Street in downtown Boston. Since 1983 we have designed and renovated exquisite homes across New England: townhouses in Boston’s historic neighborhoods, country houses, and coastal residences. Our work draws on the region’s architectural heritage while pursuing a contemporary vision and environmentally progressive approaches. We care about proportion, detail, and craft;

and we stay closely involved through construction so that what gets built is what was drawn.

We are looking for a Project Architect to lead residential projects from early design through construction administration, working directly with the principals and with our clients, consultants, and builders. This is a hands-on role in a small office: you will design, draw, detail, coordinate, and see your work built. The position is full-time and in person, five days a week, at our office at 58 Winter Street.

• Lead projects through all phases: existing-conditions documentation, schematic design, design development, construction documents, permitting, and construction administration.
• Develop design concepts and carry them through to well-resolved details; produce drawings and models in Revit (our office standard) and present work to clients.
• Coordinate structural, MEP, landscape, lighting, and interiors consultants.
• Prepare and manage construction document sets, specifications, and permit submissions, including zoning and historic district reviews where applicable.
• Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to RFIs, conduct site visits, and issue field reports during construction.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and client communication with principal oversight.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to office standards and templates.
• A high level of design ability: a portfolio that shows strong conceptual thinking, refined detailing, and a sensitivity to material, light, and proportion.
• A professional degree in architecture (M.Arch or
  
  B.Arch) from an accredited program.
• Roughly 5 to 10 years of post-degree experience, with a meaningful share of it in custom residential work.
• A current architectural license (Massachusetts, or eligible for reciprocity) is a major plus; candidates actively pursuing licensure are encouraged to apply.
• Fluency in Revit; competence with Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and Rhino
• Working knowledge of the Massachusetts building code, Boston zoning, and historic district processes.
• Experience with wood-frame and masonry construction, renovation of existing buildings, and high-quality finishes and millwork.
• A clear communicator: organized, self-directed, and comfortable working directly with clients and builders.

Salary range: $85,000–$120,000, depending on experience and licensure. [Benefits: health insurance, paid time off and holidays, retirement plan, and support for professional dues, licensing, and continuing education.]
