Job Requirements- Medical Degree (M.D., D.O., or MBBS)
- Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine
- Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
- Experience in pre-hospital emergency medicine and EMS medical direction required
- Experience in urban EMS systems, quality assurance, protocol development, and medical education preferred
- Fellowship trained in Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Department of Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center (BMC) is recruiting an Associate Medical Director for Boston EMS to join the Boston EMS medical leadership team
. The successful applicant will receive an academic appointment at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine
, at a rank commensurate with experience.
The qualified applicant should possess an M.D., D.O., or MBBS with board certification (or board eligibility) in Emergency Medicine and EMS
, and be eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This is an outstanding opportunity for a clinically excellent emergency physician with demonstrated expertise in EMS operations, medical oversight, quality improvement, and pre-hospital care delivery
. Experience in academic teaching, research, and public health collaboration is also desirable but not required.
The Department of Emergency Medicine at BMC is a nationally recognized, high-volume, academic emergency department and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Department DescriptionBoston Emergency Medical Services (EMS), a bureau of the Boston Public Health Commission
, is a national leader in pre-hospital emergency medicine, education, and innovation. Boston EMS provides both BLS and ALS services and plays a critical role in the City of Boston's public health and emergency preparedness infrastructure. The Department of Emergency Medicine at BMC supports one of the busiest emergency departments in the country and a prestigious four-year residency training program.
The Associate Medical Director reports to the Medical Director of Boston EMS and works collaboratively with departmental and city leadership.
Responsibilities include:
- Medical oversight and operational leadership for Boston EMS
- Support of EMS training, quality assurance, protocol development, and field operations
- Serving as Medical Director or liaison for special projects and initiatives
- Participation in off-hours training, field clinical time, special event coverage, and emergency management
- Clinical practice as an Attending Emergency Medicine Physician at Boston Medical Center
- Educational responsibilities including didactic teaching and mentorship of Emergency Medicine residents, APPs, medical students, and interdepartmental learners
- Participation in academic scholarship, quality improvement, and/or research initiatives

, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
Compensation range: $295,345- $424,779
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and departmental budget. The above hiring range represents a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
