Position
Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Physician Assistant – Level1 Trauma Center Inpatient Team at Boston Medical Center.
Scope of PracticeThe Physician Assistant works under the general supervision of a physician and performs a range of medical tasks, including:
- Obtaining complete medical history and performing a physical examination
- Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies
- Formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan
- Prescribing and/or dispensing medication
- Assisting in surgery or other invasive procedures
- Rounding on admitted patients
- Counseling patients and families
- Other patient‑care duties as determined by the attending physician
Medical rounds, order entry, documentation of daily notes and discharge summaries, and active participation in multidisciplinary rounds are required. Weekend shifts are scheduled; night, holiday, or on‑call coverage is not required.
Work SettingCollaborate with 11 surgeons, 8 advanced practice providers, and the Boston University residency training program.
ScheduleFull‑time, weekdays and weekends with no night, holiday, or on‑call duties.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree and graduation from an ACPE‑accredited PA program
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) PANCE eligibility
- Eligibility for PA licensure in Massachusetts; documentation of a Massachusetts PA license and NCCPA certification upon hire
- Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration if prescribing medications
- Prior clinical experience in a similar setting preferred but not required
- Strong clinical judgment, initiative, professionalism, and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English
- Interest in caring for diverse populations and varied health literacy levels
