Emergency Services Medical Director

The Emergency Services Medical Director is a psychiatrist providing clinical and medical oversight across all programming, including Behavioral Health Crisis Consultation and Consultation Liaison (CL) services for served BILH hospitals.

• Leadership: Co-leads the Emergency Services Division alongside the VP of Emergency Services.
• Work Model: Hybrid (virtual and on-site responsibilities).
• Division Scope: Hospital Team North, Hospital Team South, CL Team, Central Triage, and Jail Diversion Programs.

• Operations & Leadership: Oversees all clinical and medical operations of the Emergency Services Division; plans, builds, and implements a CL service structure for select BILH hospitals.
• Clinical Care & On-Call: Provides scheduled and as-needed CL services; offers on-call phone coverage for medical consultation to staff and system hospitals.
• Staff Supervision: Directs and supervises division medical staff, including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and psychiatric nurse clinical specialists in the CL and On-Call groups.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Attends daily hospital/system huddles, regular stakeholder meetings, quarterly division meetings, and monthly program meetings.
• Case Escalation & Safety: Reviews clinical escalations to address admission/diversion barriers; ensures escalation protocol compliance and conducts inpatient psychiatric reviews.
• Quality & Compliance: Drives quality improvement, patient safety, HIPAA compliance, and regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission); provides medical leadership on policies.
• Academic Enrichment: Delivers live, virtual, or recorded training on relevant clinical topics and competencies.

Supervision Supervises all psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse clinical specialists in the division. Manages onboarding, training, and credentialing maintenance across all served BILH hospitals.

• Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Residency: Completion of an ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency.
• Fellowship: Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry / Psychosomatic Medicine.
• Board Certification: Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry;
  Board Certified or Eligible in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
• Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of C-L Psychiatry experience in a hospital setting.
  • Minimum 2 years of formal leadership experience.
  • Strong background in medically complex psychiatric care within academic medical centers or large hospital systems.

Pay Range: $ USD - $ USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation may be determined based on several factors, that may include education, training, relevant experience, specialty, geography of work location, productivity, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by  addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include productivity and quality bonuses.
