What is the Moderate-Severe Special Education Teacher Role?
As a special education teacher in this role, you deliver individual and group instruction to students with moderate to severe special needs in a substantially separate classroom, and build strong relationships with students in order to push them to be their best selves both academically and personally. You design individualized curriculum, write education plans, collect and evaluate data. In this role, you also implement comprehensive behavior support plans, serve as the IEP team chair for a small caseload, and coordinate related services.
You collaborate with others to ensure each student is receiving the support they need, including training to paraprofessionals and consulting regularly with specialists or personnel involved in a child s program
Hours for this role are 7:15 am - 4:20 pm daily.
The salary range is $74,000–$130,000, commensurate with experience. Moderate-severe special education teachers will also earn an additional $7,700 stipend for teaching a high-need area.
Is This You?
- You’ve earned a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in special education and/or hold a special education teaching license
- You have a working knowledge of federal and state special education laws
- You have experience with ABA and working with children with autism and developmental delays
- As a classroom leader, you believe that great teaching closes the achievement gap and have an unwavering belief in your students’ capabilities
- You are committed to leading a classroom with students and paraprofessionals
- You are professional, warm, and collaborative with students, families, and colleagues
