Summary: The literacy teacher is a specialist in all aspects of ELA instruction; reading, writing, and spelling. The literacy teacher provides high-level literacy support for members of the school community.

Major Responsibilities:

• Organizing and implementing multisensory structured language instruction.
• Providing direct service for whole group, small group, and individual instruction based on student needs.
• Administering and interpreting educational assessments.
• Implementing a range of effective strategies and reading interventions.
• Co-planning with classroom teachers.
• Organizing and disseminating ELA resources to school staff.
• Collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, including measures such as DIBELS for grade-level meetings.
• Implementing lessons specific to Common Core Standards and sharing instructional strategies.
• Participating in grade-level meetings.
• Leading specified curriculum meetings, as well as discussions around literacy practices.
• Assisting in the analysis of school-wide literacy strengths and weaknesses and formulating plans to improve student achievement in reading and teacher effectiveness.
• Creating an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the reading achievement of all students.
