Job Description
** About TCP
** The mission of The Calculus Project (TCP) is to use research-supported strategies to increase the representation and success of Black, Hispanic, and low-income students in advanced mathematics. There are seven distinct components that support students year-round, and one of these is a summer acceleration program to boost learning and combat summer slide. This is achieved by:
* Engaging Curriculum:
Relevant, real-world problem-solving, games, and activities.
* Active Learning:
Employing project-based learning, hands-on activities, and practical applications.
* Digital Integration:
Blending digital tools, such as ALEKS and Edia for adaptive practice, with traditional methods.
* Targeted Support:
Offering personalized tutoring and small group learning to build strong foundations for the upcoming school year.
** About the Position
** Summer programs run in Boston from July 6 - August 14 and in Lowell from July 20 to August 7.
We are hiring summer teachers and assistant teachers (3- to 6-week period) in in Boston (Boston University and Emmanuel College) and Lowell (UMass Lowell) to teach financial literacy, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, algebra 2/trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. We seek dedicated, passionate, and collaborative teachers who love working with students and are committed to continuous professional growth through feedback. As a Summer Math Acceleration Teacher, you will be responsible for pre-teaching the math skills and concepts for the first semester of the upcoming fall curriculum to a class of 20-25 middle or high school students.

You will be supported by an Assistant Teacher and student Peer Teachers. Beyond teaching mathematics, the role includes chaperoning field trips and leading SEL (Social Emotional Learning) activities designed by The Calculus Project (TCP). Teachers have the option to work for one or both of the two summer sessions in Boston sites (UMass Lowell has only one session).

** Key Responsibilities
*** Plan and implement the math curriculum for middle or high school students.
* Establish and maintain regular communication with supervisors and parents regarding student academic progress.
* Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student learning and growth.
* Participate in paid professional learning activities focused on pedagogy, curriculum, and lesson planning.
** Qualifications for lead teachers
*** Bachelor's degree is required, master's preferred    Must be licensed or professionally certified to teach secondary math (or provisionally licensed)  + Previous teaching experience, particularly with adolescents, is preferred.  + Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with students and staff from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.  + A creative approach and the ability to inspire curiosity and excitement about mathematics.
* ** Qualifications for assistant teachers**  + Bachelor's degree or working toward a bachelor's or master's in education or math  + Previous classroom experience  + Demonstrated ability to support students and staff from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
