Bedford Public Schools invites applications for the position of Extended School Year Summer Program Special Education Teacher – Severe Disabilities (7/6/26-8/7/26). This role will be district-wide and begin on 07/06/2026.
DescriptionSpecial Education Teachers for Extended School Year prepare and instruct students in small groups and individualized work for reading and math per IEP goals.
Responsibilities- Ability to write IEP Goals and Objectives
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles, standards, and strategies for educating children as established by the MA Department of Early Education and Care/DESE.
- Be familiar with the principles and standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (for preschool position).
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of district and school curriculum goals.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate these objectives to students.
- Plan instruction based upon explicit goals regarding what students should know and be able to do.
- Create or provide learning experiences that develop students' abilities and require the application of thinking and functional skills.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels.
- Assess student learning on a regular basis using multiple forms of formative assessment in order to measure a child's functioning in the relevant developmental domains.
- Use formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction; provide reports of student progress as needed.
- Create a classroom-learning environment that is engaging, orderly, secure and appealing for students and in which mutual respect is shown.
- Communicate student progress and development to parents.
- Provide written assessments, referrals and evaluations when necessary for students with special needs. Participate in IEP meetings as required.
- Model learning and behavior consistent with the expectations for students.
- Attend staff or team meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary.
- Perform other such duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.
- Build positive relationships with students in support of their academic, functional, and social development.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
- Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide timely progress reports.
- Master's Degree Preferred in Special Education
- Experience with ABA required
- Appropriate Massachusetts licensure
