Position: Community Connect Success Navigator (Acad. Coordinator)-Academic Support & College Pathway Program - Bunker Hill
Job Description:

Reporting to the Assistant Director in the Division of Academic Support & College Pathway Programs, the Community Connect Success Navigator will use a community-connected, student-centered, asset-based, data-driven, and outcomes-focused approach to guide students to and through College services and processes, including, but not limited to:
Advising/Life Map, course registration, exploration and planning. The Navigator will make appropriate referrals where necessary, playing a central role in guiding and empowering students to access resources and services, and to plan and implement their education and career objectives for individualized success.

Responsibilities:

The Community Connect Success Navigator is responsible for assisting with developing and delivering responsive services and programming for Community Connect Scholars that may include but are not limited to the following:

* Create and deliver responsive, community-focused student services and programming aimed at improving student access, engagement, retention, and graduation.

* Utilizing a success-coaching model based on best practices, provides an array of traditional student support services including enrollment, financial aid, academic career/vocational and transfer advising.

* Administer and interpret academic, personal and career/vocational assessments, to identify the strengths and weaknesses of new students regarding their entry-level basic skills and motivation.

* Participate in the training of faculty, staff, and peer mentors who can serve as resources and provide effective curricular and co-curricular support.

* In collaboration with Life Map staff, provide an array of services (academic career, and transfer advising) to continuing students in person as well as utilizing remote technology.

* Utilize intrusive advising and proactively assess needs; complete holistic assessment of student needs to facilitate appropriate referrals and provide outreach to students at key points in the semester.

* Assist with the advisement and registration of new and continuing students regarding their academic plan, course selection/sequencing, curriculum/concentration selection and changes, career exploration and plans to transition to a 4-year institution; conduct student advising sessions in Spanish as needed.

* Assist students in developing short- and long-term academic, career and life plans; review alignments of career and educational goals with student interests, skills and personal financial requirements.

* Assist in creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure clarity, consistency, and efficiency in the delivery of student services and programming operations.

* Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement academic, career, and transfer advising across the curriculum; assisting with the design and/or facilitation of related classroom presentations.

* Build collaborative relationships with resource centers on campus to provide smooth connections ("Warm Handoffs") to appropriate success services, such as:
Life Map, Student Activities, Single Stop/The DISH, departmental advisors, tutoring, supplemental instruction, or accommodations for disabilities; financial literacy skills development; and emergency assistance.

* Collaborate with Community Connect Leadership Team and other campus departments in the design, marketing, implementation and assessment of Community Connect programming.

* Work closely with Community Connect Leadership, Life Map staff, and Institutional Research to gather, analyze, and interpret data to monitor students' progress.

* Collaborate with Peer Connectors (student leaders) to answer student questions and provide student assistance.

* Participate in college meetings, community engagement, and outreach activities as needed.

Requirements:

* Master's degree in Cultural and Community Studies, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology or a closely related field, with five (5) years of experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project development and/or management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

* Bilingual in Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience working with diverse students in a fast-paced student services/client services or equivalent setting.

* Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a range of different academic and non-academic units, and local communities/community-based organizations.

* Excellent intercultural, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.

* Proficiency in student information systems as well as MS Word and Excel.

* Ability to work evenings and weekends.

* Experience managing and supervising staff/students.

* Experience working with underrepresented groups.

* Experience working at a community college, nonprofit and/or community-based organization.

Additional Information:
