Job DescriptionReporting to the Assistant Director in the Division of Academic Support & College Pathway Programs, the Community Connect Success Navigator will guide students to and through College services and processes in a community-connected, student-centered, asset-based, data-driven, and outcomes-focused approach. The Navigator will support advising/life mapping, course registration, exploration and planning, and will make appropriate referrals to help students access resources and services and to plan and implement their education and career objectives for individualized success.
Responsibilities- Create and deliver responsive, community-focused student services and programming aimed at improving student access, engagement, retention, and graduation.
- Utilize a success-coaching model to provide enrollment, financial aid, academic career/vocational and transfer advising.
- Administer and interpret academic, personal and career/vocational assessments to identify strengths and weaknesses of new students.
- Participate in training of faculty, staff, and peer mentors to provide effective curricular and co-curricular support.
- Collaborate with Life Map staff to provide services to continuing students in person and remotely.
- Use intrusive advising to assess needs; conduct holistic assessments to facilitate referrals and outreach at key points in the semester.
- Assist with advisement and registration of new and continuing students, including academic planning, course selection/sequencing, concentration changes, and career exploration; conduct sessions in Spanish as needed.
- Assist students in developing short- and long-term academic, career and life plans; align goals with student interests, skills and financial considerations.
- Contribute to creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for clear, consistent operations.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement advising across the curriculum and assist with related classroom presentations.
- Build relationships with on-campus resource centers to provide connections to success services (Life Map, Student Activities, Single Stop/The DISH, tutoring, accommodations, financial literacy, emergency assistance).
- Collaborate with Community Connect Leadership Team and other campus departments in design, marketing, implementation and assessment of programming.
- Work with Community Connect Leadership, Life Map staff, and Institutional Research to gather, analyze, and interpret data to monitor progress.
- Collaborate with Peer Connectors to answer student questions and provide assistance.
- Participate in college meetings, community engagement, and outreach activities as needed.
- Master's degree in Cultural and Community Studies, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology or a closely related field, with five (5) years of experience in college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project development/management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience working with diverse students in fast-paced student services environments.
- Ability to collaborate with a range of academic and non-academic units and community-based organizations.
- Excellent intercultural, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in student information systems and MS Word/Excel.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Experience supervising staff and students.
- Experience working with underrepresented groups and within community colleges, nonprofits, or community-based organizations.
Salary: $77,358.00 - $83,345.00 (Actual Salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement). Full-time benefited position. This position is funded by the SUCCESS Fund (State allocation).
Grade: 6, Unit-Professional position.
