ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, School of Law, Academic Engagement

Boston University School of Law is a leading law school with an international reputation, dedicated to providing one of the finest legal educations in the world. The Assistant Director for Student Engagement plays an integral role in empowering student leaders, supporting the co-curricular environment, and advancing equity in engagement and operations. This role oversees 50+ student organizations with budgets ranging from $500 to $200,000 and develops annual training and leadership transitions.

The position requires attention to detail, clear communication, and a commitment to equity and care for our community.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee direct support, oversight, and advising of 50+ student organizations.
  • Manage organizations with budgets ranging from $500 to $200,000.
  • Annually revise and implement policies to create great events and experiences.
  • Develop annual training and leadership transitions for student leaders.
  • Contribute to equity and inclusion work alongside the team and students.
  • Engage the community through operations and policy reviews for equity and care.
  • Collaborate with a student-centered team in the Student Affairs Office; support in-person work with potential flexible or remote arrangements as staffing permits.
  • Attend to occasional night and weekend responsibilities.
  • Participate in staff activities and events (e.g., book clubs, staff lunches, cookie swap, etc.).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, plus 3 years of full-time experience directly in student activities; or an advanced degree in Higher Education, Law, or a related field, plus at least 1 year of full-time experience in higher education.
  • Experience working directly in student activities and/or as a student leader.
  • Competency in identifying and developing resources related to individual and group programming.
  • Experience with program planning, operations and event management.
  • Ability to quickly master new technologies, including student engagement systems.
  • Experience facilitating trainings and discussions.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with individuals and groups of various identities.
  • Experience with budgeting and/or oversight of others' budgets.
  • Understanding of the relationship between student leadership and advancing equity in legal study and practice.
  • Commitment to developing and continuously improving the systems, processes, and technologies that enable effective and equitable student engagement.
  • Experience working with a graduate and/or professional school population.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and/or Word Press.
  • Experience with marketing and communication for events and trainings.
  • Exposure to the legal profession.
Compensation and Location

Location:

Boston, MA. Salary range: $55,300.00 – $69,700.00. Salary is based on factors including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and internal pay comparisons. This posting reflects the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation range at posting.
