About the Role

At Dearborn STEM Academy students in grades 10-12 have the option of taking courses at Wentworth, Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, Bunker Hill Community College and Roxbury Community College to earn college credit for free. The Early College Associate serves as a student advisor, helping students select and enroll in their college classes; as a tutor, supporting students 1:1 with their Early College coursework;

and as a member of the Pathways Team, monitoring student progress overall and developing a comprehensive support system across grades 10-12.

This position works under the Director of Early College and Career Pathways, running all day-to-day operations for the Early College program and supporting other career pathway initiatives.

Primary

Responsibilities Include:

  • Early College Registration Responsibilities
    :
    • Recruit and counsel students for the early college program
    • Update and implement recruitment presentations 2-3 times per year (Nov, March, May)
    • Aid students in the application process for the different partner institutions
    • Register students for classes based on individual student needs and available classes/seats
    • Collaborate with partner institutions on providing orientation/boot camps at the beginning of each semester
    • Maintain a tracking system of all students, classes, credits, and progress each semester
  • Academic Support Management
    :
    • Organize individual tutoring for Early College students through Wentworth, the DPC cohort, and (recruit) other community partners
    • Manage tutor and student progress over the course of the semester to ensure student success
    • Conduct weekly check‑ins with students to support personal growth in and out of the classroom
    • Collaborate with partner institutions to progress monitor students at minimum monthly to ensure student success
    • Serve as secondary support for any students who are not progressing in Early College coursework
    • Create systems to qualitatively track student progress
    • Work interpersonally with teachers and students’ family members to establish personalized learning plans
    • Cultivate close working relationships with students in order to build trust and motivate them to reach out for help
    • Push‑in to classroom periods to connect with students on their progress
  • Other Responsibilities
    :
    • Reflect with Director of Early College on data and student progress to ensure best practices and refine necessary protocols
    • Maintain and update website as needed throughout the year
    • Maintain social media and/or supervise student intern to do
