This position is an anticipated vacancy. It is expected to be vacant by 06/30/2026. The current incumbent has a right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation up until the day of the expected vacancy date. Your hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated, and you may start the year as a Long‑Term Substitute if the position does not become vacant by the start of the school year.

Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional Cooperative Education Coordinator Teacher with an SEI Endorsement who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners and leaders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who desire to serve where their efforts matter.

Madison Park Technical Vocational High School is the only technical‑vocational high school in the City of Boston. It offers 20 Chapter 74 vocational programs and focuses on a career major with the intention of students entering a career and post‑secondary program of study. From 2025 to 2028 the city and the district are constructing a new facility for Madison Park, which will require changes in the current locations and operations of our Chapter 74 programs.

As the Co‑op Coordinator, you will develop job sites for the placement of students in the cooperative education program as specified by Chapter 74 guidelines.

Reports to:

Principal/Head of school.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit and develop new co‑op placement sites in conjunction with students' vocational teachers and Program Advisory Board members.
  • Identify cooperative education job sites and provide all pertinent information to vocational instructors, counselors, cooperative education students, parents and employers.
  • Coordinate all procedures for identification, application, selection and placement of cooperative education students in accordance with state requirements.
  • Assist Special Education Transition Counselors with placing students into work‑based learning experiences.
  • Develop written agreements between the school, employer and student and parent/guardian, including but not limited to hours, wages, time‑off and health insurance. The agreement shall include the skills to be acquired by the student.
  • Conduct classes and/or workshops in safety and health orientation specific to the site for all employee‑students, and workshops in job employability skills (e.g. composing resumes, completing mock interviews).
  • Conduct continuous supervision visits to cooperative education placement sites to ensure that students are meeting all applicable state and federal labor laws and regulations, including worker compensation insurance, equal employment opportunity and occupational health and safety.
  • Complete all placement reports required by the Department of Education, all required cooperative education forms and maintain accurate records including student attendance, grades, term reports and work performance, including summertime co‑op students and interns.
  • Maintain site visit and other records to ensure that the cooperative education experience contributes to the student’s education, employability and attainment of appropriate competencies.
  • Serve as the communication conduit between the school and cooperative education employers on all issues relating to student preparation for and performance at work.
  • Follow‑up on identified issues with students, employers and teachers.
  • Provide work permits for co‑op and non‑co‑op students.
  • Participate in staff and faculty meetings, attend all statewide Cooperative Education meetings and additional duties assigned by the school leader.
Qualifications
  • Education Level: Hold a High School Diploma.
  • Possession of a current Initial Vocational Cooperative Educator Coordinator, 9‑14, license.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in vocational education.
  • Completion of a one‑year induction program and 300 hours with a trained mentor.
  • Completion of at least three full years of employment under the Vocational Technical Cooperative Education Coordinator, 9‑14, license.
  • Possess or be willing to obtain current OSHA safety certification.
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
