Teen and Sports Coordinator

Description

Position Summary: The Teen and Sports Coordinator role offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of youth and teens in our community. This position is responsible for leading dynamic programs that promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy, active lifestyles in youth and fostering personal growth, leadership skills, and academic success in teens.

As the Teen and Sports Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the organization, development, and implementation of teen and youth sports programs for the center. You will supervise sports instructors and teen leaders ensuring the delivery of high-quality programming and fostering a safe, engaging environment for all teens, adults and youth. This position develops, organizes and implements the following Y programs:
Youth Enrichment Programs, sports, Birthday Parties and others as developed based on the community needs.

Key Responsibilities Teen Programs
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate YMCA teen programs, including but not limited to: Y Achievers, Leaders Club, Youth and Government, safety and social networking, educational support, leadership development, and career readiness.
  • Deliver high-quality weekly programming that meets grant and funding requirements, track and report program data and outcomes.
  • Recruit, engage, and retain teen participants; manage rosters and maintain strong attendance.
  • Provide 25 hours per week of direct program instruction/facilitation.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise teen staff and volunteers; conduct performance evaluations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local after schools, middle and high schools to support recruitment and partnerships.
  • Represent and promote YMCA programs at community events; serve on at least one community-based committee.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Executive Director to develop and manage the annual teen program budget.
Sports Programs
  • Direct and supervise youth and adult sports programs in alignment with YMCA objectives.
  • Develop and expand sports/enrichments offerings, including classes and leagues for ages 2–12 and adults 18+.
  • Ensure timely creation of program schedules with age-appropriate activities.
  • Provide 10–15 hours per week of direct instruction in youth sports programs and enrichments.
  • Market and promote programs to drive enrollment and community engagement.
  • Respond promptly to members and community inquiries.
  • Monitor and manage program budgets in collaboration with leadership to meet revenue goals.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise sports instructors and volunteers; conduct performance evaluations.
Additional responsibilities
  • Serve as Leader on Duty (LOD) as part of the center leadership team.
  • Ensure programs meet community needs by evaluating existing offerings and developing new initiatives aligned with strategic goals.
  • Manage program enrollment, rosters, reporting, and evaluation of effectiveness.
  • Assist in marketing and communication efforts for programs and events.
  • Recruit and develop diverse staff and volunteer teams; foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Build strong relationships with members, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Coordinate scheduling of facilities, classes, and events.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support cross-functional programming and communication.
  • Ensure a variety of program offerings including sports, arts, dance, and enrichment for youth (birth–13).
  • Welcome and support families in identifying programs that meet their needs.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise Education & Experience
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in youth development or working with school-aged children and teens.
  • At least 2-3 years of coaching and sports experience.
  • Experience in program management (budgeting, planning, evaluation).
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Demands

Ability to physically and verbally interact with members and staff; at times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs.

Required Training/Certifications
  • Child Abuse Prevention (prior to the start of employment)
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (within 90 Days of Employment)
Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position requires a flexible schedule including daytime, evening, and weekend availability depending on the needs of the position.
