Boston Prep is a college‑preparatory charter public school that serves students from grades 6‑12 in the Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park areas. The school emphasizes academic growth, ethical development, and anti‑racism.
Responsibilities- Plan and teach four music sections each day (instrumental and chorus), including office hours at least once a week and small group instruction blocks during the school day.
- Collaborate with co‑teachers, SpEd/ELL specialists, and other specialists to design and deliver differentiated, standards‑aligned, data‑informed, and culturally affirming instruction.
- Provide targeted feedback on student work to drive engagement and support equitable grading practices.
- Communicate with students, families, and school leaders on academic and behavioral progress via phone calls, messages, and conferences.
- Build relationships through the advisory model, homeroom structures, ethics focus, and whole‑school moments.
- Attend school‑wide events, weekly staff professional development, and extracurricular activities to support a positive school culture.
- Uphold grade‑level systems and structures, actively addressing racism and inequality within the community.
- Participate in coaching meetings, implementing feedback with fidelity, and maintain a classroom environment that engages students authentically.
- Assess student performance through tests, projects, and presentations, and provide individualized instruction and support.
- Advising/mentoring students (8‑15) in advisory meetings and personal‑growth activities.
- Maintain an orderly and supportive classroom environment, implementing effective classroom‑management strategies.
- Support school‑wide initiatives, parental conferences, and community engagement events.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (Master’s preferred). Valid Massachusetts teaching license in the appropriate subject area, or a passing MTEL score in music within the first year.
- Prior teaching experience preferred; experience in a charter school, with diverse student populations, and inclusive education practices is a plus.
- Strong instructional, classroom‑management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with educational technology for instruction.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and student success.
- SEI endorsement (core academic and special education teachers only) within the first year of employment.
