Job Description

Boston Prep is a college‑preparatory charter public school that serves students from grades 6‑12 in the Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park areas. The school emphasizes academic growth, ethical development, and anti‑racism.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and teach four music sections each day (instrumental and chorus), including office hours at least once a week and small group instruction blocks during the school day.
  • Collaborate with co‑teachers, SpEd/ELL specialists, and other specialists to design and deliver differentiated, standards‑aligned, data‑informed, and culturally affirming instruction.
  • Provide targeted feedback on student work to drive engagement and support equitable grading practices.
  • Communicate with students, families, and school leaders on academic and behavioral progress via phone calls, messages, and conferences.
  • Build relationships through the advisory model, homeroom structures, ethics focus, and whole‑school moments.
  • Attend school‑wide events, weekly staff professional development, and extracurricular activities to support a positive school culture.
  • Uphold grade‑level systems and structures, actively addressing racism and inequality within the community.
  • Participate in coaching meetings, implementing feedback with fidelity, and maintain a classroom environment that engages students authentically.
  • Assess student performance through tests, projects, and presentations, and provide individualized instruction and support.
  • Advising/mentoring students (8‑15) in advisory meetings and personal‑growth activities.
  • Maintain an orderly and supportive classroom environment, implementing effective classroom‑management strategies.
  • Support school‑wide initiatives, parental conferences, and community engagement events.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (Master’s preferred). Valid Massachusetts teaching license in the appropriate subject area, or a passing MTEL score in music within the first year.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred; experience in a charter school, with diverse student populations, and inclusive education practices is a plus.
  • Strong instructional, classroom‑management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with educational technology for instruction.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and student success.
  • SEI endorsement (core academic and special education teachers only) within the first year of employment.
