POSITION OVERVIEW
The Music Assistant assists with the planning, implementation and ongoing evaluation of quality and developmentally appropriate programs, activities, services, and special events in the club’s music program areas for youth ages 6-18.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Commitment to Excellence in Program Delivery, Behavior Management and Safety- Assist in providing a variety of programming options reflective of the BGCB Music Program, including running individual programs, activities, trips, etc.
- Assist volunteers and consultants who can offer related instruction, support and guidance to members.
- Assist in the supervision and discipline of members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the clubhouse as deemed appropriate.
- Assist with the completion of BGCB’s program activity standards as assigned.
- Participate in various evaluation efforts throughout each program year, including the annual member survey.
- Maintain a safe and clean program area.
- Know safety emergency procedures and enforce all rules and protocols to ensure safety of our youth and programs.
- Apply knowledge of youth development principles in assigned club program area.
- Secure and maintain materials, equipment and other resources belonging to program area(s).
- Seek out and participate in professional development opportunities as approved, provided or directed.
- Strong verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, families and instruct youth in quality programming, including applying conflict resolution skills and best classroom and group management practices.
- Participate in collaborative programs, events and field trips with staff from different clubhouse groups, staff from other BGCB clubhouses and community organizations as appropriate.
- Other related duties as specified by the Music Clubhouse Program Manager and Program Director.
- Teaching youth/teens the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle is a BGCB priority. All staff are expected to model healthy behavior while working with our members.
- BGCB values creating child-friendly environments where youth/teens of all abilities can be successful and participate. Staff are expected to embrace inclusion of all members, regardless of disability or developmental challenge.
- Building the capacity of staff is central to BGCB. The organization requires staff participation in annual professional development opportunities that continue to cultivate their skills in the youth development field.
- Every staff member shares the responsibility for ensuring BGCB is an environment free of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse.
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 1‑year direct experience providing music programs for youth
- Knowledge of trends in music programming, techniques and theory, and utilization of technology in the field
- Knowledge of youth development principles
- Ability to multi‑task and demonstrate flexibility
- Must be or become current CPR/First Aid certified
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work clubhouse hours – especially as seasons and service needs change
- Valid Driver’s License
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience in out‑of‑school time settings
- MS Office and web competency
- Bi‑lingual or multilingual
Travel between sites and to activities as needed.

SALARY & BENEFITSSalary – $19/hr – commensurate with experience; along with a competitive, great work environment.
