The School of Psychology at UNSW is the leading Psychology school in Australia. It is located in the Faculty of Science and is recognised nationally and internationally for its excellence in research and teaching. It offers world class undergraduate psychology degrees, as well as postgraduate professional Masters training in Clinical and Forensic Psychology, an online Graduate Diploma program, and a PhD research programme with over 120 students.

40 academic staff conduct experimental research in many areas of Psychology, including behavioural and cognitive neuroscience, perception, learning, memory and cognition, as well as health, social, developmental, clinical and forensic psychology. UNSW Psychology is the only School in the southern hemisphere ranked in the top 30 by discipline in the THES, QS and ARWU rankings. The School has well equipped research and teaching facilities and attracts outstanding staff and students from Australia and overseas.

The Lecturer (Level

B) / Senior Lecturer (Level

C) is expected to carry out activities to develop their scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally and to contribute significantly to achieving the teaching and service missions of the School and Faculty.

There are 5 roles currently being advertised by UNSW Psychology. You will be considered across ALL of the 5 roles as appropriate, so only one application is required.

About

The Role
  • LEVEL B – $127k - $150k / LEVEL C – $155k – 178k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term – 2 years Convertible Tenure Track (CTT)
  • Full time (35 hours)
LEVEL B:
Specific responsibilities for this role include
  • Demonstrate and continuously develop a well‑defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning.
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in statistics and research methods in line with UNSW policy.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources, and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
  • Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning statistics and research methods with the support of more senior academics.
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one‑to‑one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
  • Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.
  • Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge and minimum professional accreditation requirements (where relevant).
  • Make a positive contribution to School meetings and seminars and be a member of School/Faculty committees as required.
  • Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in psychology in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
  • Create scholarly impact which is recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge in psychology.
  • Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team (as per the norms of the discipline) and design research projects in psychology.
