Job Description

Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional Vocational Tech [Aviation Technology] Teacher who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. The Aviation Teacher will provide aviation‑related instruction to Madison Park students and create a pathway for interested students to enter the aviation industry, which currently has a shortage of pilots, technicians, and other personnel, with a disproportionately low share of Black, brown, and female pilots. The instructor will have the opportunity to compile the curriculum for the course that will start as a single course Introduction to Aviation elective and eventually grow into a multi‑year course sequence for students to advance and work towards a private pilot license.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching – Provide a vocational technical course of study that is aligned to state curriculum frameworks, meets student learning needs, and maintains a safe learning environment.
  • Align vocational technical skills and content with the school's curriculum map to achieve equitable student outcomes.
  • Earn and/or maintain all required licensure.
  • Construct curriculum appropriate for the course.
  • Work with Madison Park leadership to build a multi‑year course sequence that eventually includes a flight component for eligible students.
  • Construct and maintain yearly equipment lists and estimated operating costs for the elective’s budget.
  • Set criteria and standards for assessment.
  • Ensure compliance with Madison Park and Boston Public School policies and procedures, local, state and federal regulations, including the FAA.
  • Coordinate with the FAA for any curriculum needs and examinations.
  • Manage future private flight school selection and evaluation.
  • Work with the school to devise standards for student eligibility for the elective and any flight components.
  • Ensure safe and cost‑effective delivery of ground and flight training in accordance with 14 CFR Part 61 or 141.
  • Write and submit annual reports as needed for accreditation processes and assessment to detail efforts and improvements.
  • Participate in various school council meetings and working group meetings as needed and as assigned.
  • Participate in planning and execution of a marketing campaign to under‑represented communities to attract students interested in aviation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by school leadership.
