Program Description
The Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math Science programs at Boston University serve 136 Boston Public High School and Chelsea Public High School students by providing academic instruction, math and science enrichment activities, tutoring, social enrichment and personal support. The instructor is responsible for teaching two to four sections of a Latin course during the six-week summer program for college-bound high school students. Each section meets for fifty minutes, two days per week on the Boston University campus. The course instructor is expected to develop and implement course curriculum, provide written evaluations of student performance, monitor one afternoon of study hall, and attend weekly staff meetings.
Scheduleand Compensation
The position is part-time and does not include housing. Program dates are June 21, 2026, through July 31, 2026. Salary: $45 per instructional hour.
Educational RequirementsMinimum Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in education, Latin, or related field with certification and/or teaching experience in appropriate content area.
Required ExperienceMinimum one year teaching experience. Applicants must possess an understanding of the needs of disadvantaged youth and the creativity to respond to student learning needs with innovative ideas and approaches without compromising course content. Excellent interpersonal skills a must.
