Position: 2026-2027 | Middle School Special Education Teacher

Instruction, Service Delivery, and Student Support
  • Provide direct special education services to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure students with disabilities have access to rigorous grade‑level instruction.
  • Provide small-group or individualized instruction to support academic and behavioral growth.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications to ensure equitable access to curriculum and assessments.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies based on data and student needs.
  • Maintain service delivery logs and documentation in accordance with school systems and compliance expectations.
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals and service providers to ensure coordinated student support.
Special Education Compliance and Documentation
  • Write or collaborate on the development of IEPs and 504 plans for assigned students.
  • Participate in and, when appropriate, facilitate IEP team meetings.
  • Review and maintain accurate records related to student evaluations, IEPs, progress reports, and related documentation.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports within required timelines.
  • Ensure students receive all services and accommodations outlined in their IEPs.
  • Partner with school leadership to ensure state testing accommodations and compliance requirements are implemented.
Collaboration and Student Support Systems
  • Collaborate with grade‑level teams to ensure students with disabilities are supported academically and behaviorally.
  • Meet regularly with special education staff, related service providers, and instructional teams to discuss student progress.
  • Support the implementation of inclusive instructional practices across classrooms.
  • Contribute to student support team discussions and problem‑solving processes.
Partnering with Students and Families
  • Maintain regular communication with students and families regarding academic progress and support strategies.
  • Build positive relationships with students to foster engagement and confidence.
  • Participate in family conferences, meetings, and school events when appropriate.
  • Partner with families to ensure students receive consistent support at school and at home.
Building School Culture
  • Communicate the school’s mission and expectations to students and families.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Model empathy and maintain high expectations for all students.
  • Uphold school‑wide systems and structures with fidelity.
  • Contribute positively to Boston Prep’s collaborative and mission‑driven culture.
Compensation
  • The pay range for this role is: $59,406 - $91,790.
Qualifications

Experience:

  • Previous teaching experience is preferred; experience in a charter school setting is a plus. Experience with diverse student populations and inclusive education practices is a plus.

Education, Qualifications, and Certifications/Licensure:

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Master’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
  • Qualifications
    • Experience working with students with disabilities in inclusive settings.
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of special education instructional strategies and accommodations.
    • Ability to support students across academic and behavioral domains.
  • Certification
    • Valid Massachusetts teaching license in the appropriate subject area, or a passing score on the Communications & Literacy MTEL, as well as a MTEL in the content area(s) taught within their first year of employment at Boston Prep.
    • An SEI Endorsement (core academic and special education teachers only) as defined by DESE, within the first year of employment at Boston Prep.
