Summary:
The Baker Center for Children and Families (Judge Baker Children’s Center) promotes the mental health of children and families through research, intervention, training, and policy.
The Manville School seeks a Special Education Assistant Teacher to provide academic and behavioral support to students, carry out curriculum instruction under the supervision of the special education teacher, and implement evidence‑based behavior management techniques. This training position provides direct supervision from an educational supervisor and classroom teacher.

- Plan and implement individualized and small group lessons in specific curriculum areas (1‑2 content areas) under the supervision of the special education teacher in the classroom.
- In conjunction with the classroom team (lead teacher and behavior support personnel), develop and implement a classroom behavior management plan appropriate to the age and social/emotional levels of students.
- Actively participate in the daily operation of the classroom, including academic instruction and classroom management.
- Learn and employ effective behavior management techniques that are consistent with the school‑wide model and structure.
- Foster positive self‑esteem and social growth of students through appropriate curriculum and behavioral structure.
- Write Quarterly Progress Reports based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required.
Experience:
- Experience working with children/students with special needs, preferably in a classroom setting.
Training:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
- First Aid/CPR and Physical Restraint trainings are required or ability to participate in annual training at the beginning of employment and annually or as needed throughout tenure.
