Job Description

Conservatory Lab Charter School is a laboratory school that serves a diverse range of students from preschool through eighth grade, emphasizing rigorous academic and music education.

The reading specialist supports students struggling with reading by implementing research‑based interventions to build proficiency. The role requires collaboration with content teachers and participation in IEP planning and accommodation design to ensure students access grade‑level content.

• Establish success plans for students struggling with reading
• Partner with the lead teacher to support an optimal learning environment for students
• Co‑plan lessons with academic teachers to support student learning
• Write IEP goals and conduct learning assessments
• Attend all IEP meetings in accordance with assigned students
• Consult with academic teachers to design and support implementation of students’ accommodations
• Lead small group and individual instruction using identified scientific, research‑based interventions focused on individual student difficulties
• Maintain records of interventions and progress monitoring to ensure fidelity of implementation
• Assist the lead teacher in maintaining two‑way communication with families, including attending team/parent meetings as required
• Assist with universal screening of students
• Assist with all testing accommodations
• Supervise student groups as assigned by the schedule
• Utilize feedback to reflect on skills and improve performance to enhance supports for students
• Perform related duties as requested to support a safe learning environment
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Principal or designee

• Reading specialist license or equivalent qualification
• Experience working in an urban environment
• Special education license
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole
• Ability to work closely and collaborate on a professional team
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Strong oral communication skills
• Flexible and able to work in a fast‑paced environment
