Job Description

Title:

Assistant/Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture School:
Harvard Graduate School of Design Department/Area:
Landscape Architecture

Description:

Harvard University's Graduate School of Design aspires to provide education and scholarship of the highest quality—to advance the frontiers of design knowledge, to educate leaders in design, research, and scholarship, and to make a resilient, just, and beautiful world. The Department of Landscape Architecture advances research and innovative design practices in the natural and built environments as they intersect with processes of urbanization and the present realities of a changing climate.

The Department of Landscape Architecture invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor with a focus on design. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in design at several scales and contexts. In addition, the candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: material culture, climate, design innovation, geography, design culture, urbanization, and environment.

We seek individuals with the capacity for cross-disciplinary research, pedagogy, and practice who can contribute to shaping contemporary debates on changing climates and how design contributes to a more equitable distribution of ecological and environmental resources. While the department's priority is appointing full-time tenure-track faculty, we will also consider candidates for part-time Assistant/Associate Professorships in the Practice of Landscape Architecture.

Teaching responsibilities will include instruction in the required studio courses for the professional MLA programs, as well as playing an active role in shaping design pedagogy in the core studio curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to regularly engage with design students and faculty through thesis advising, guest critiques, and project reviews within the department and across the GSD.

Teaching will be conducted in the context of an interdisciplinary design school with faculties in architecture, urban planning and design, and advanced studies programs.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates should have a recognized record of distinguished accomplishment in their landscape architecture academic and/or professional endeavors. The Department has a strong preference for candidates who hold a graduate degree in landscape architecture, but candidates with a graduate degree in a related design field will be considered. A doctoral degree is desirable but not required.

Additional Qualifications:

This appointment is anticipated to start in the fall of 2025. We will review applications on a rolling basis beginning in September 2024. Initial Submission:
Candidates should upload the following materials: 1. A letter of interest describing your qualifications and research/pedagogical focus.
2. Current CV 3. Selected material from their portfolio, amounting to 25mb or less.

Given our commitment to inclusion, how have you demonstrated your approach to pedagogy and mentoring for a student cohort that is diverse across multiple dimensions including but not…
