Position: Open Rank Faculty, Non-Tenure Track, Natural Sciences

Position Description

Merrimack College is a selective, private college in a beautiful, residential setting—just minutes from Boston, Massachusetts. The School of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a full‑time, non‑tenure‑track, open‑ended term, open‑rank Instructional Professor in Biology within the Department of Natural Sciences. The role supports the college’s mission of fostering academic excellence and community engagement.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and update undergraduate Biology courses.
  • Teach a combination of lectures and labs for the Biology program and related science programs (Health Sciences, Nursing, etc.).
  • Develop, teach, and implement laboratory courses with a course‑based research experience (CURE) component.
  • Coordinate undergraduate introductory biology labs.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students and host consistent office hours throughout the academic year.
  • Attend department and faculty meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean and/or Department Chair.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in biological sciences or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Experience teaching lectures and laboratories at the collegiate level.
  • Strong interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching with a commitment to accessible and experiential pedagogy.
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative student‑centered academic community.

Work Location

This is an on‑campus position, essential to provide a fully on‑campus, residential college experience for students and the community.

Compensation

The expected 9‑month base salary range (paid over 12 months) is $78,000–$90,000 for the Assistant Instructional Professor and $90,000–$110,000 for the Associate Instructional Professor. Actual pay will be determined based on qualifications, experience, scope of responsibilities, internal equity, and market considerations.
