The Simulation and Clinical Lab Education Educator's primary role involves overseeing the planning, execution, assessment, and improvement of simulation and clinical lab experiences based on evidence‑based practice guidelines, course objectives, and curriculum standards. The educator will create a lab environment that replicates real clinical settings, promoting active learning, critical thinking, effective communication, and the development of the skills and confidence needed to deliver safe patient care.

Examples

of Duties:
  • Collaborate with the Director of the Center for Clinical Education and Research (CCER) to drive ongoing quality enhancement across clinical lab and simulation activities.
  • Establish annual goals and objectives for clinical lab and simulation development in alignment with the Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences (MCNHS) undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Integrate competency standards into the clinical lab and simulation curriculum to align with national entry‑level nursing practice criteria.
  • Develop, assess, and update the CCER Clinical Policy and Procedures Manual to ensure safety, efficiency, uniformity, and effectiveness in CCER practices.
  • Evaluate students' capacity to perform psychomotor skills safely and accurately in clinical settings.
  • Identify and schedule the number of faculty and staff required to effectively run each simulation and clinical lab section.
  • Train clinical faculty and teaching assistants in simulation‑based education techniques to enhance their ability to facilitate simulation sessions according to industry standards.
  • Oversee the undergraduate Clinical Tutoring and Referral Program, supervising graduate teaching assistants and student nurse mentors in the development of clinical tutoring experiences.
  • Evaluate students’ performance during on‑campus clinical and simulation‑based activities, including the Clinical Referral Program.
  • Design self‑paced learning modules, unfolding case studies and skill learning stations to reinforce and enhance students’ understanding of clinical content and ability to perform clinical skills.
  • Serve as a clinical lab and simulation expert within the college, offering clinical resources and consulting to the Director and Lab Manager to ensure the acquisition of appropriate clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Support the Director of CCER with lab initiatives, research projects, and curricular activities as requested. Complete necessary reports, serve on committees, and participate in college activities as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Nursing or current enrollment in a graduate nursing program, and at least three years of adult or pediatric acute or critical care nursing experience is required. Current Massachusetts RN license and Basic Life Support certification are required. Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule, which includes evening and weekend hours. Within 2 years of hire, obtain status through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.

Preferred:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Experience participating in or facilitating high‑fidelity simulation in nursing practice or education.
  • Academic and/or clinical teaching experience.
Additional Qualifications / Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing nursing practice.
  • Knowledge of software applications, including office software and database management.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently work in a team capacity with a broad range of staff to accomplish departmental and program goals.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to work under pressure and under time frames.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to prepare written reports, correspondence and recommendations.
