We are looking for a skilled and passionate Part-Time Lead Facilitator, Professional Learning (Civic Empowerment) to join our diverse and inclusive team. As an equal opportunity employer, we are dedicated to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to be themselves  this position, you will serve as Generation Citizen's primary instructional lead for the Teaching for Civic Empowerment initiative, ensuring that every course session — whether delivered in person across regional hubs or synchronously online — is consistently high-quality, equity-centered, and responsive to the needs of educators.

This is a part-time position requiring 20 hours per week. In this role, you will lead live sessions with cohorts of up to 50 participants, while building, training, and coordinating a network of stipended Lead Teacher Facilitators who serve as co-facilitators and regional ambassadors. This role plays a central part in GC's continuous improvement cycle by gathering and acting on participant feedback to advance civic education pedagogy and culturally responsive facilitation practices.

This role reports to the Director of Massachusetts Programs & State Partnerships (DMPSP).

Instructional Leadership & Live Facilitation
  • Lead all live in-person and synchronous virtual course sessions across regional hubs throughout the Commonwealth, delivering high-quality professional learning to cohorts of up to 50 educators per session.
  • Support small group activities and peer discussions to maintain engagement in large-cohort sessions, skillfully leveraging collaborative digital tools (e.g., Padlet, Miro).
  • Partner with the DMPSP on regional logistics, venue requirements, and day-of facilitation support for scheduled in-person sessions.
Program Design & Continuous Improvement
  • Adapt existing course content, in collaboration with the DMPSP, to align with participant feedback, DESE's Teaching for Civic Empowerment brand, and the Massachusetts 2018 History and Social Science Framework.
  • Develop, maintain, and update facilitator guides for all course runs, incorporating DESE feedback and post-session reflections to ensure growth across subsequent cohorts.
Network Coordination & Co-Facilitator Management
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and coordinate Lead Teacher Facilitators (stipended Massachusetts civics educators).
  • Lead vital pre-session briefings, manage co-facilitation structures during live sessions, and conduct intentional post-session debrief conversations.
Data, Evaluation & Compliance
  • Administer pre- and post-session surveys (via RSVPify/Google Forms), and compile participant feedback data for post-course summary reports to DESE.
  • Complete a structured debrief form within 48 hours of each session to document engagement, content clarity, pacing, and any misconceptions, and flag patterns to the DMPSP for agile adjustments.
  • Ensure facilitator guides and session agendas are submitted to DESE for review at least 10 business days before course delivery, and contribute data/observations to the annual program evaluation report.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience facilitating professional development for adult learners, ideally in K-12 education, civic learning, or community engagement contexts (or equivalent lived/professional experience).
  • Deep knowledge of civics education pedagogy, including project-based and community-based approaches, culturally responsive teaching, and student-led learning models.
