The 5th Grade Teacher will deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in reading, language arts, mathematics, and science using district curriculum and a variety of instructional materials. Responsible for classroom planning, assessment, and collaboration with colleagues and the school community to support student growth and learning outcomes.
Major Responsibilities- Teach reading, language arts, mathematics, and science to assigned classroom.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
- Create a conducive classroom environment appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Guide learning toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Implement educational philosophy and instructional goals in daily lessons.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law, school policy, and regulations.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional hours when required.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, evaluating performance.
- Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments.
- Work under general supervision of the Upper School Director or designated administrator.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on required staff committees.
- Morning duty: supervise hallways and classrooms.
- Afternoon duty: supervise dismissal process.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.
- Experience working in an urban setting (preferred).
- Experience working with diverse student populations (preferred).
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning.
- DESE License:
Elementary 1-6 and SEI Endorsement. - Or passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) with required subject test scores.
